Brands I Support
During the pandemic, I thought deeply about how our spending affects society. In order to spend on companies that reflect my values, and to encourage others to do so as well, I've created this database of brands I love and support. Key is below.
Key
- Business Size
- micro: creator does it on the side
- small: founder(s) and founding team do it full-time
- medium: small team runs the business, revenue likely sub-100M
- large: team of more than 50, revenue likely above 80M
- Special Interest
- female-owned: owned and founded by female-identifying person
- female-founded: founded by a female-identifying person, but no longer owned by them (acquisition, etc)
- woman-of-color-owned: owned and founded by a woman of color; subset of "female-founded" and "minority-owned"
- black women-owned: owned and founded by at least one black woman; subset of "woman of color-owned" and "minority-owned"
- minority-owned: owned by founder(s) of color
- sustainable: I have vetted the brand using my supply chain knowledge to be sustainable, not "sustainable"; vintage is always sustainable by the very nature of re-using an already-made product, even if it isn't contructed out of sustainable materials
- hand-crafted: products are crafted by hand, and thus not mass-manufactured; likely sustainable due to hand-made nature
- artist/creative: business is run by an artist or creative
- health-resilient: founder has openly talked about running a business despite a chronic or acute illness and/or disability
- made in USA: product is manufactured in the USA; support local businesses to reduce carbon emissions and overproduction due to long supply chain lead times
- Description
- Starts with Capitalized letter: In their words, what they do.
- Starts lowercase: My description of what they do
- Why I like them
- My reason for liking the brand, personally
- Personal Notes
- My impression of the team due to a personal interaction I have had with them
